commUNITY Table is a food security program that will not only feed children, but also provide culinary experiential learning throughout the week at the Asbury Campus.
In partnership with Emerson South Alternative High School, Ending Hunger OKC will begin culinary classes for students attending the school. The student population is diverse with many new or soon-to-be, young parents attending. The school principal, Angela Lewis, will offer class credit toward graduation for students enrolled in a nine-week section of the culinary arts program. The plan is to transport 10-15 students to the Asbury campus every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to spend two hours in the kitchen. During their time on site, students will work with trained chefs, dietitians, and nutritionists to pre-prepare meals that will be taken home to complete to feed their families.
